Vanishing Point 1970 Dodge Challenger and What Happened With the Original Cars !?

One of the most famous Hollywood muscle car chase scene is the Vanishing Point, where the main character is the white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. However, the question is what happened with the cars, that have been used in the movie?

Unfortunately, none of the cars that have been used in the original 1971 movie, survived. There were five cars, which four of them were 440 4-speed and one was the 383 automatic, and every single one of them, have been scrapped.

However, fortunately from the second, 1997 remake movie, all of the five Challengers that have been used in the movie are saved. Which one of those is this absolutely flawless 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi, with 4-speed trans and 4:10 Dana-60 Rear-end.

  1. I’m surprised they were that dumb to scrap those Challengers used in the original Vanishing Point. Just think how much they’d be worth now. I wonder if somebody could recreate them exactly like the ones they scrapped? I also remember it was a 1971 Dodge Challenger, not 1970. If I was rich I’d have ten or twenty 1971 Dodge Challengers made just like the movie Vanishing Point. Sure they’d be replicas, but just think how much they’d be worth. I also think the modern day Challengers should be more like the 1971 model. Sure I’d put things like a CD player, but the basic design should be nearly identical to a 1971 model, only brand new.

    • Frederick, you are absolutely right. however, at the time no one knows that one day these challengers would worth so much.

    • Sorry. The original film of Vanishing Point was released in 1971. All the Challengers were 100% 1970.

    • Actually, filmed summer 1970. Movie released
      on January 6, 1971. Definitely 1970 models.
