Pure Stock 1972 Dodge Demon 340 vs Hellcat Challenger

1972 Dodge Demon 340

This is the ultimate question, which is better, the classic or the modern Mopar muscle cars. In the last century, at the beginning of the ‘60s till late ‘70s were produced some of the most legendary, iconic, and most powerful Mopars, where some of those still are living their glory in this 21st century, after 50 years and more.

Here we have 1/4 mile battle between Dodge Challenger Hellcat, powered by Supercharged Chrysler’s 6.2 liter, 370 cubic-inch small-block SRT Hemi Hellcat V8 engine, which delivers 707 horsepower and 650 lb. -ft. of torque. The Hemi engine is equipped with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.

On the other side, the classic 1972 Dodge Demon 340 is powered by Chrysler’s 340 cubic-inch or 5.6 liter LA V8 engine, factory rated at 240 horsepower and 290 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is bolted to TorqueFlite automatic transmission. On the paper the modern Challenger is much more powerful, but who is faster?
