The ’67 Shelby GT500 from the factory came with the 428 engine, but the owners have used and abused this engine to the point of failure. The 427 came as a replacement from the Shelby official dealership, but it turns out that this engine is more reliable and more powerful than the 428. The history tells that the 427 is a race engine that was used in the NASCAR racing series in the early 60s.

All the GT500’s were factory installed with the 428, but one model came with the 427 and that is the well-known Shelby Super Snake. The power of the 427 equipped with a 650-cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor is rated at 390 horsepower, which is a lot more than the regular 428. Although this engine is capable of producing even more horsepower with a proper intake and fuel system. At the end the ’67 Shelby GT500 remains as one of the most collectible and mysterious muscle cars.
