68 Mustang GT v 68 Charger R/T – Bullitt Recreated

Today we pay a tribute to the legendary car chase Bullitt, that not only the Ford enthusiasts love it, but also the Mopar guys. That is because in the movie there were two main muscle cars, the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback and the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440.

1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback and 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440.

This is nothing more than reminding of the best Hollywood muscle cars chase ever. Beside that, it is an opportunity to prove or disprove some of the things that the muscle car enthusiast claim about these two cars, which one is better – faster.

As a reminder, the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is powered by a Ford’s 390 cubic-inch, 6.4 liter big-block FE V8 engine. With 4-barrel carb this engine is rated at 325 horsepower and 427 lb.-ft. of torque. On the other side the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440 under the hood has an Chrysler’s 440 cubic-inch, 7.2 liter big-block RB Magnum V8 engine. With a 4bbl on top this engine is rated at 375 horsepower and 480 lb. -ft. of torque.

Many will say that the Charger should be faster and the things in real life shouldn’t turn out like in that movie scene, but if you want to know the truth, check out the videos, and tell us what you think in the comment section below.

  1. Pretty clever video given the location NOT in the hills of SF. I saw just one Beetle in the video and it only appeared once. The one in the movie appeared at least 4, maybe 5 times. And the Charger didn’t lose any wheel covers. Great tribute to a great movie, which is only great because of the chase scene. The rest of it is kind of bland.
