This is one of the last Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 Super Duty’s ever produced. Besides the ‘hard times’ in the mid-70s, Pontiac did not give up on the 1974 Trans Am, especially the Super Duty option. It may look like the standard 455 engine but nearly everything about this engine is different.
Pontiac made a bunch of Trans Am’s back in 1974, which were best-known for performance, style and comfort. However, less than 1000 came with the 455 Super Duty engine and out of those, only 212 had the 4-speed manual transmission like this car. Unfortunately they did not come with the air conditioning.
Under the hood of this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Super Duty model there is a 455 cubic-inch big-block V8 engine, producing 290 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. But we have to remember that by 1971 those horsepower and torque numbers were rated differently. Another interesting fact, is the Uniroyal tires may be the original ones that came on this car out of the factory.
