1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am 20th Anniversary Indy 500 Pace Car

Every American muscle car manufacturer had their own Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. However in the ’89 for the 73rd Indy 500 race series Pontiac had made their 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans-Am 20th Anniversary Indy 500 Pace Car. This Firebird is one of the 1555 examples ever build by General Motors and as you can see this is all original example.

This 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans-Am 20th Anniversary Indy 500 Pace Car is powered by Intercooled Turbocharged GM’s 231 cubic-inch or 3.8 liter turbocharged Small Block V6 engine which was used in the Buick GNX. The V6 engine is boosted by Garrett’s T-3 turbo which provides 16.5 psi of boost.

The engine was factory rated at 250 horsepower and 340 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is attached by Turbo-Hydramatic 200-4R 4-speed automatic transmission system, while the performance was: from 0 to 60mph in just 4.6 seconds and top speed of 162 mph.
